It all began in 1997
when we undertook to convert a Freycinet barge brought from France into a houseboat in London. Faced with the challenge of sourcing quality portholes, we decided to have our own portholes made by craftsmen near shipbreaking yards along the Pakistani coast. From the outset, we insisted on the quality of materials and workmanship, requiring conical frames ready for welding.
Friends and neighbours living or sailing on other Dutch barges soon asked us to supply them with our type of portholes. Upon returning to live in France, we officially established our business under the name Canaldock. We launched our French website: www.hublots.fr (hublots being French for portholes). This was followed by myportholes.co.uk and patrijspoorten.com for the Netherlands.
Double Glazing and ISO Standards
Over time, the Canaldock catalogue has expanded to meet the evolving needs of our customers. Canaldock introduced double-glazed portholes to enhance thermal and sound insulation, as well as oblong ports and windows for a modern aesthetic. Our portholes and watertight doors comply with international standards for maritime and inland waterways, including ISO 1751, ISO 3903, and ES-TRIN.
Opening glass frame 100% stainless steel
In 2024, we added 300 mm and 450 mm portholes with full stainless steel openings to our "in stock" catalogue, enhancing strength, durability against rust, and providing a more refined finish.
